Subject: WOW!
This was my first experience with the music of the Grateful dead, I was 15 at the time I believe. I have to say, this was a life changing night! I'd heard some of the Dead's music before, but you truly have to be there to get the full experience. Since this show, I've seen Phil many more times. I happy to call myself a deadhead, and it was this night that I was introduced to the world of the Dead Experience. The things i saw, heard, experienced, and people i met are not soon to be forgotten. I look forward to Phil's Return Oh yes, and Chris Robinson was very impressive!

Subject: THE FLASHBACKS THEY PROMISED IN THE 60'S ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!
What a freakin' amazing show. It's like the Dead never left, except that they morphed into this new, improved raging musical beast where the level of musicianship has evolved into a realm that few musicians can ever hope to achieve. The taste, the groove, and sense of adventure thru improvisation were mind-blowing. This is, my friends, the world's only rock n' roll jazz band!

Phil's work with John Molo over the past few years has turned him from merely "The Dead's Bassist" (who was always great in my opinion), into a world-class bass player who can groove as hard as anyone I've ever had the privilege of hearing. While I love Hart/Kreutzmann and the Dead (for almost 40 years...first show at the Greek Theater @ UC Berkeley in 1967), Molo has given Phil a pocket so huge you could drive a truck thru it and Phil has hopped in and started driving is if he were Cowboy Neil himself. As a bass player myself with 40 years of playing experience and being rather heavily influenced by Phil's style and tone, I really appreciated the swing & groove and freedom of expression...it was a beautiful thing to hear!
It's especially nice to know that there's a bassist out there who can play other than the root and under/around the time and still groove so damn hard!

Amazing stuff:

1. Phil - the tonemeister...amazing as always
2. Molo's chops & taste on drums
3. Chris Robinson....he rocks big time!
4. Barry Sless' solos on pedal steel
5. Strawberry Fields....flashback city!
6. St Stephen-it's been 30 years..thank you!!!

This show is a must for downloaders! Warning: do not drive or operate machinery while listening...side-effects include acid flashbacks!

Star rating is for show...recording quality is sub-par.

SHow wqs very nice, but I knew right away that the awesome venue had only one problem , SOUND!!!
I really hope Phil will put this and SAT. 10th out for us on DSB, cause they are worth it, and i doubt there will be any good copies of this out there due to the horrible muffleness of the venue.
much better than the Newark shows, so let's cross our fingers. (star rating based on show not recording.)

Sorry, this recording sounds terrible, muddy...just awful. It's great to see PLF shows uploaded so quickly but I wish there was a little more discrimination as to the quality of the recording.
